CHILD FIND

 

Provides assistance in the location, identification, evaluation, and initiation of

appropriate education or other needed services to all children and youth, birth

to 21 years of age who have or are at risk of developing special or unique needs.

Primary emphasis is on children birth to 5 years of age. Kindergarten to 21 year

olds who are not being served in a public school are also included in the target

population. It is the responsibility of the Child Find function to assist with the creation

of general public awareness of child find services; help hard to reach populations and

potential referral sources to know about child find services; serve as a central point of

information by receiving referrals, providing information, and directing inquiries to

appropriate providers; assist with screening children and youth who may need formal

evaluation; assist appropriate service providers with evaluations, through coordination,

brokering, training and support; and facilitate service planning and initiation through

tracking children and coordinating services as children progress through the continuum

from identification to placement so that children in need of services are located, screened,

evaluated, and provided appropriate educational services without delays in the service

system.

 

 

HRD

 

Human Resources Development (HRD) personnel collaboratively plan and provide information,

training, technical assistance and/or consultation, and resources to support high student

achievement.  To accomplish this, HRD personnel:

 

Support districts, schools, and individuals in meeting personnel development needs

Identify and provide information regarding human development resources and promising

practices

Provide awareness, implementation, follow-up, and refinement level training designed to

meet individual district needs

Engage in district and school-level collaboration to support planning and delivery of

educational services

Provide relevant materials, equipment, and other resources available to stakeholders and

consumers in support of state and district goal attainment

 

The focus is on effective instructional strategies and models for children and youth who are

exceptional and/or have unique needs.  HRD personnel work collaboratively with Regular

Education and Exceptional Student Education personnel to provide support services for this

student population.  HRD personnel services may include, but are not limited to:

 

Provision of multi-level training,

Facilitation of site-based Professional Study Groups

Modeling of effective instructional practices

Observation and consultation

Coordination and/or facilitation of on-line ESE courses

 

 

PARENT

The main goal of FDLRS/Gateway Parent Services is to promote partnerships between schools

 and parents.  FDLRS/Gateway does this by:

assisting schools and districts in developing family friendly programs,

ensuring that families have access to exceptional student education training, and providing

information to families and professionals about local resources and family support groups.

 

These are some of the ways that FDLRS can help parents:

Individual Assistance By phone or in person, we can provide information about ESE

(Exceptional Student Education) programs and services, provide guidance on educational

planning, and assist families in finding community resources.

Parent Training and Informational Workshops

Provide Opportunities for Parent Involvement

Parent Path A newsletter for parents of children served through Exceptional Student

Education, is published three times yearly and contains information on disability issues,

upcoming events, and resources for families and students.

TECHNOLOGY

The FDLRS/Gateway Technology department provides assistance and support in the appropriate

use of a variety of technologies for students, teachers, professional staff, and parents.

 

The FDLRS/Gateway Technology department:

promotes local awareness, identification, acquisition, and effective integration of assistive

and adaptive technologies, including FCAT accommodations,

facilitates the identification and use of augmentative communication systems,

promotes integration of instructional technology with effective teaching, leading to improved

learner outcomes,

supports the use of technology to help students manage their behavior to be successful in the

classroom and community,

provide opportunities to explore equipment, components, and program solutions that may

expand learning options for students through the use of new and emerging technologies,

facilitate the identification and use of technologies that present information and training

through distance education options such as interactive video, on-line courses, and other

interactive multimedia methods.
