Captioning Accommodations for Students who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing

The use of captions is one of the most recognized accommodations for people who have hearing loss. In

the State of Florida there is a FREE-LOAN video library for educators and interpreters serving students

who are Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing. The library is coordinated through the Resource Materials and

Technology Center (RMTC), which is a state funded program that is housed on the campus of the Florida

School for the Deaf and Blind in St. Augustine. RMTC supports professionals serving Deaf and Hard-of -

Hearing students K-12. RMTC has a video collection of more than 1600 captioned and/or signed titles

including educational and deaf culture titles for teachers to use in the classroom as well as sign language

and interpreting practice videos. Visit their website at www.fsdb.k12.fl.us/rmc to see what is available and to

place your order or call 1-800-356-6731.

The Described and Captioned Media Program (DCMP) is a federally funded FREE-LOAN program that

serves Deaf and Blind individuals. DCMP is located in Spartanburg, South Carolina but serves all of the

United States. DCMP has more than 4,000 titles. The DCMP provides services designed to support and

improve the academic achievement of students who are blind, visually impaired, deaf, hard-of-hearing, or

deaf-blind. Qualifying applicants include K-12 school personnel serving these students, their families, and

others whose use of the media benefits at least one such student. This educational media is made accessible

to the deaf and hard-of-hearing via captioning and to the blind and visually impaired via description. For

more details visit their website at www.dcmp.org or call 800-237-6213 (Voice) or 800-237-6819 (TTY).
